What’s the skinny on fat freezing you ask?
Fat freezing is taking the medical aesthetics industry by storm. We get a brief introduction to one of the ‘coolest’ treatments in town, CoolSculpting, from a Medical Rejuvenation Centre technician as she answers some commonly asked questions.
Firstly, what is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is an FDA-cleared treatment that uses controlled cooling to eliminate fat without surgery or downtime (making it a low-cost, easier alternative to liposuction). The latest enhancements to the technology make it possible to offer our patients transformational results with shorter treatment times and greater comfort than ever before.
As with any of our treatments, we recommend coming in for a consultation so you can best understand what the treatment entails and whether or not it is right for you.
Interview with Paras (MRC Technician)
Who do you typically recommend CoolSculpting to?
Basically CoolSculpting is for people who are in their ideal weight, but they have extra bulges, or excess body fat, that they want to reduce or get rid of. This treatment is for anyone that has an area on their body they are not happy with.
In basic terms, how do you explain CoolSculpting to new patients?
Using freezing technology to reduce or kill fat cells. Over the coming weeks the body begins to discard these fat cells as waste because they are dead. In the area treated, patients can see up to 20% fat reduction.
What is the number one concern with new patients who have never tried CoolSculpting before?
They are usually concerned if it works and how well it works. I explain to them that it works for most people and they will see up to a 20% fat reduction in one area. It’s pretty straightforward but it’s always good to have a consultation beforehand to alleviate any worries or concerns.
What do most people say to you after their first treatment?
That they are happy and would treat more areas of concern. Typically they want to come back and do more treatments.
Are there any new areas you are treating right now?
Yes the bra fat area, knees are the new areas that we are treating, but you can do it elsewhere as well.
What areas do you typically treat?
We typically treat the abdomen, love handles, flanks and bra fat areas.
What has been the best feedback that makes you excited about promoting CoolSculpting?
Most clients say that they are happy and feeling really confident. I had a patient that can wear a sports bra now and go to the gym instead of always covering up or putting their tank top on. They are happy that the fat hasn’t come back.
How long does the treatment take?
35 minutes per applicator. Typically they need 2 applicators, so about an hour and a half.
What can clients do while they are getting their treatments?
They sit, they read – they even nap! We use the newest technology so it’s way more comfortable than it used to be, so much that clients can actually fall asleep!
Are there any side-effects/contraindications to worry about?
There are no side-effects, but there can be onset pain – because the fat cells pop, they can feel a bit of cramping or numbness to the area. We sometimes refer to it as fat freezing because you are literally freezing the fat cells, so there will be some sensations involved with this change in temperature. However some patients are so comfortable that they don’t notice these sensations.
