Xeomin, similar to Botox®, works by blocking the signal from the nerve to the muscle, the same way that Botox does. As a result, the targeted muscle cannot contract and therefore can not create wrinkles.
Similar to Botox in that they come from the same source, the only difference is that Xeomin has fewer complexing proteins surrounding the botulinum toxin type A molecule. This is believed to lessen a patient’s likelihood of developing an immunity to botulinum toxin type A. When the body senses a foreign invader (ex. botulinum toxin), it responds by creating antibodies and launching an attack. If this were to happen, the treatment may not have its desired effects.
Xeomin is a cutting-edge, cosmetic medication used to treat frown lines and dynamic wrinkles and slow or reverse facial aging for all patients, including those who have developed an immunity to Botox, and new patients who have not previously had either treatment.
