Gummy Smile

Excessive Gingival Display, or “gummy smile,” is when more gum tissue than usual shows above the upper teeth when a person smiles. A gummy smile can be seen, but it has also been said that it happens when more than 4 millimeters of gum tissue are showing when you smile.

Treatments

Botox

Botox can be an effective treatment for a gummy smile, which occurs when an excessive amount of gum tissue is exposed when smiling. By injecting Botox into the muscles that control the upper lip,  these muscles temporarily relax and reduce their elevation of the upper lip. This results in a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing smile with less gum showing.
