WHAT ARE LIP FILLERS?

Lip fillers are a non surgical procedure that aims to create volume and shape, as well as restore hydration and can reshape lips with signs of aging. Most patients get dermal fillers for shape, structure and volume. The injectable is composed of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural, structural component found in your body. Dermal filler is semi-permanent and most patients will come back 1-2 times a year for touch-ups.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF FILLERS USED FOR THIS TREATMENT?

The most common dermal fillers used for this treatment are Restylane, Juvederm, Belotero, Prevelle Silk, and HylaForm, among others. Some are better for structure or provide more volume, while others may give a softer look or improve fine lines in the lips. During your consultation, your injector will inform you of the dermal filler that will work best for you and your lips.

HOW LONG DO LIP FILLERS LAST?

It always depends on the type of dermal fillers that the professional licensed injector prefers to use. However, dermal fillers are not permanent, and it usually lasts from 6 months to up to a year. Filler will naturally dissolve into the body as time passes; each patient will dissolve fillers at different paces. Some patients will just have annual appointments, while others may need to come 2-3 times per year to achieve and maintain their desired lips.

WHAT CAN YOU NOT DO AFTER LIP FILLERS?

It is recommended that patients do not do strenuous exercise, avoid high temperature rooms, avoid alcohol, smoking, and caffeine, do not drink through a straw, and avoid putting on lipstick for at least 24-48 hours after receiving lip injections. It is also important to avoid blood-thinning medications such as Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Motrin as these can cause bruising or swelling in the treatment area.

Lip fillers can also be dissolved by a special solution in case of an adverse side effect, or if the patient dislikes the appearance.
